Welcome to North Smithfield!

We are pleased that we have this opportunity to visit with you. Our small town covers 24.7 square miles in northern Rhode Island. Our rural character is one facet of our lives that we treasure - our residents are friendly and welcoming - and our community involvement is second to none.

In the 17th century British colonists settled in North Smithfield and developed a farming community named after a small town in Smithfield, England. Our town was part of Smithfield, RI until it was incorporated as North Smithfield in 1871.

The village of Slatersville, at the heart of the community as a gathering place, touts a beautiful town common and white steeple church. We are proud residents of “America's first planned industrial mill village”. There is history in every step you take! Should you venture down the hill from the Common, you will see the Slaters Mill, which has significant historic value.

Please feel free to contact us with any questions you have about our quaint New England destination. We look forward to having you visit with us, in person, to witness beauty on the banks of the historic Blackstone and Branch Rivers.

You are always welcome here.
