REACTNorthern Rhode Island REACT
The Northern Rhode Island REACT is a nonprofit organization chartered by REACT International to provide emergency communications in the public interest. It is qualified as a charity under Section 501(c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as amended. The team has been in existence since 1962 serving the residents of Northern Rhode Island.

Major Goals
The major goal of the team is to assist in any emergency by using Citizens Band, General Mobile Radio Service Radios, Land Mobile Radio, and Amateur Radio (HAM), Family Radio Service (FRS) to furnish communications in cooperation with authorities and other volunteer organizations.

Community Emergency Response TeamCommunity Emergency Response Team
A Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is a group of 10 to 20 citizens trained and certified by the NSEMA to provide emergency assistance in their own neighborhood for the first 72 hours following a disaster. They could be activated for:

  • Severe winter storms
  • Wildland fires near the city
  • Major earthquakes
  • Civil disturbances or other calamities
  • Hazardous materials spills
  • Neighborhood Crime Watch

The CERT Teams are trained in the following:

  • Disaster Awareness and Home Preparedness
  • Basic Fire Suppression
  • Utility Control (natural gas, electricity, water, propane)
  • Hazardous Materials Identification
  • Disaster Medicine (triage, basic treatment, extrication)
  • Search and Rescue
  • Trauma Intervention and Disaster Psychology
  • CERT Team Management
