The Planning Department is responsible for guiding development and growth throughout the Town and for administering state law relating to land use and planning.

The Planning Department reviews subdivisions and land development project proposals, and maintains the Comprehensive Community Plan and the Zoning Ordinance. The Planning Department prepares the Community Development Block Grant Program application, open space and recreation grants and is the clearinghouse for data and research for planning projects.  As the Town's Environmental Advocate, the Town Planner coordinates the stormwater and floodplain management programs and handles soil erosion issues.

The Department also provides staff support to the Planning Board, Conservation Commission, Industrial Development Commission and other advisory boards.
