Curbside Yard Waste Collection Season
begins October 3, 2016
Fall Season continues from Monday October 3rd - Friday December 2nd
Residents can place up to 8 brown lawn bags or cans of leaves, grass clippings and small branches out for collection on their regular collection day.
Small bundles of branches under 3 feet in length will also be collected.
Yard waste is processed into compost and collected separate from trash or recycling. It is very important that no trash, plastic bags or non-organic materials are mixed in.
Did you realize. Taking advantage of the curbside pickup is better than bringing yard waste to the garage? Once collected at your home, it goes straight to RIRRC compost area. When yard waste is brought here, our crew takes extra time to load containers and then incur a fee to bring the containers to the landfill.
Make it easier on yourself and let MTG Disposal collect your yard waste when its the season. Instead only visit us when you have more yard waste than the limit allows.

Live on a larger wooded lot? Please consider keeping yard waste right on your property. It is the greenest way to handle this material.

RECYCLE - There are ways to recycle so many items!
Recycling is sorting like materials so it can then be made into new items, instead of be landfilled. When disposing an item, take a look at what is made of (metal, plastic etc.) to see if it might be accepted in one of our recycling programs below.
RECYCLING in your Curbside Bin
North Smithfield offers weekly curbside recycling pick-up on the same day as your trash collection. Using this recycling program is the easiest way to reuse valuble materials and reduce your trash amount.
Recycling also saves your tax dollars, precious space in our state landfill, and is good to our environment all at the same time.
What Belongs in the Blue Bin?
Recycle bins are available at the Town Hall located at 1 Main Street and at the Highway Garage. New residents will receive their first bin free. Replacement or additional bins are just $5.
RECYCLING Rigid Plastic, Scrap Metal & Yard Waste
Residents are welcome to bring these accepted items to our Highway Garage whenever we're OPEN.

RECYCLING Fluorescent Light Bulbs

RECYCLING TVs & E- Waste
Due to unforseen circumstances, TVs and E- Waste are no longer being accepted at the Highway Garage.
Free drop off for RI residents is still available for TVs, monitors & computers (CPUs, laptops & tablets) at the state landfill in Johnston RI. Click here for hours and details.
Electronics that are metal,(eg: microwaves, toaster ovens, VRC etc.) are still accepted at the highway garage and will be recycled with in our scrap metal collection.
Private companies are also offering a drop off or pick up option for computer components. Residents should contact these companies directly. Click here for specific details.
We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding as town responds to these new limitations just placed on the collection of this material.

RI has a great PaintCare program to recycle both latex & oil-based paints. Some local paint retailers now allow drop off of accepted paints during their normal business hours.
PaintCare sites accept house paint and primers, stains, sealers, and clear coatings (e.g., shellac and varnish) but we do not accept aerosols (spray cans), solvents, and products intended for industrial or non-architectural use.
